Hail bruising and wind-lifted shingles found and repaired before they turn into leaks.
36 years in the roofing trade

Unlike a tree on the roof, hail and wind damage is often quiet. Hail knocks the protective granules off shingles and bruises the mat underneath. Wind lifts the edge of a shingle and breaks the adhesive that holds it down. From the ground, the roof can look just fine, and nothing leaks until the weakened spot finally gives out.
Southwest Missouri sees hail and damaging wind in spring and early summer, and many roofs have been through more than one season of both. The cumulative damage is what shortens a roof's life. Finding it after each big storm, while it is still a repair and not a replacement, is how you get the most from the roof you have.
We inspect for both kinds of damage: the dents and bruises hail leaves, and the lifted, creased and unsealed shingles wind leaves. Then we repair what can be repaired and tell you, honestly, if the damage is spread widely enough that the roof should be replaced instead.
We look at vents, flashing, gutters and trim for dents, which show hail size and direction.
We examine the shingles slope by slope for bruising, cracking, lifted edges and broken seals.
Damaged areas are noted and photographed, which helps if you file an insurance claim.

We replace damaged shingles or panels, re-seal and re-fasten lifted ones and fix flashing and vents.
The cost depends on how widespread the damage is, and these are the factors we weigh:
After 36 years of roofing in Missouri, Otto has seen how hail and wind age a roof, and knows where to look. We will not tell you the roof needs replacing unless the evidence points that way.
Our inspection notes and photos are useful whether you file a claim or not. They give you a record of the roof's condition and a baseline after the storm.
We check and repair hail and wind damage in Pierce City, Monett and across the region. See our Monett roofing page and Springfield roofing page.
Look for dents or dings on soft metal, such as vents, flashing and gutters. On shingles, hail leaves bruises where granules are knocked off and the mat is cracked, which can be hard to see from the ground. A roof inspection is the reliable way to find out.
Yes, and it often is. Hail bruises weaken a shingle, and the roof can leak months or years later when the damaged spot finally gives out. That is why a check after a big hailstorm is worth it even when nothing looks wrong inside.
Wind can lift a shingle's edge and break the seal strip without removing it. The shingle then flaps, wears and lets water in at the next heavy rain. It can also loosen ridge caps and flashing and drive rain under the roofing.
There is no single size, because the hail, wind speed, shingle age and roofing type all matter. Larger hail damages almost any roof, but an old or brittle roof can be damaged by smaller stones.
We repair or replace the damaged shingles or panels and the underlayment and flashing around them. If hail hit most of the roof, a replacement is usually more sensible than patching hundreds of spots, and we will tell you what we see.
